The canal walk
About 25 minutes' drive · Burscough Wharf, L40 5RZ
Burscough Wharf sits right on the Leeds–Liverpool Canal, about 25 minutes inland from the park. The old canal buildings have been restored and now hold independent shops, cafes and places to eat, so it works either as a morning out or a whole afternoon, depending how far along the towpath you get.
The towpath
Flat, and it runs both ways from the wharf, so you can turn back whenever you've had enough rather than committing to a loop. There's access down to the towpath at the wharf that's suitable for wheels.
Parking
Two free car parks: one off Lord Street into Stanley Court, and one off Mill Lane. If anyone in the group needs step-free access, the Lord Street and Stanley Court one is the better of the two. There are public toilets on site.
